01/17/10 – Open Mic Sunday at Penachos

Our first Open Mic Sunday couldn’t have gone better thanks to all the performers and the staff at Penachos!

Jim started us off with a great set including “Sunny”, “Carolina In My Mind” and Joe Cocker’s version of “The Letter”.

Dell was up next and treated us to a set including ”Early Morning Rain”, “Country Roads”, “One Meatball”, “We’ll Walk In The Irish Rain”, and “Me and Bobby McGee”.

Austin performed an acapella set and had terrific stage presence (he’s only 12!). Austin’s songs included “Reflections”, “Molasses”, “Honey” and “Don’t Speak”. He’ll be back and may bring his keyboard next time.

Next up was Brenda, accompanied by Richard on her first song, “Wayfaring Stranger”. Then she soloed on “Back Home Again” and “Traveling Soldier”.  Before stepping down, Brenda was kind enough to back me up on “Can’t You See”. Way to go, Brenda!

Dell came up for a second set and knocked it out of the park with three more songs.

I did a few original songs and closed my set with “When You Say Nothing At All”.

Corkey took the stage and sounded great on his country set including “I Can’t Talk Her Out”, The Lord’s Chosen One”, “More and More”, and a few others.

Austin came up for two more songs and then Brenda joined me for the last set of the night on “Peaceful Easy Feeling”, “Landslide”, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, “Proud Mary” and “Riders On The Storm”.

I’ll be posting some pics and sound clips this week, so check back.

By the way, I’ve arranged for a free plate of Penachos signature appetizer, Aspirinas, to hit the table when you come in. I think you’ll like them and that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it come to the wonderful food they offer.

So, to sum it up, we had terrific performances, good sound, great food and the friendliest service you’ll find anywhere, right here at Penachos Mexican Grill in Downtown Deland.

All told, it was a great night and it’s only going to get better!

Don’t miss the next one!
